The business challenge was getting water from the top of a mountain, to the village down below. Anyone to do that would be compensated for their work.

One friend took the traditional route to solve the problem.
He worked hard.
He carried bucket after bucket, made trip after trip, and earned his keep.

So he started working harder.
He worked longer hours.
He used larger buckets.
And he earned more money as a result.

The other friend, after also taking the traditional approach for a while, decided to stop and think about how he could be more effective.

He decided to build a pipeline.
His work took much longer. His income reduced greatly, as much of his time was spent building this pipeline. (Which wasn’t bringing any water, so far, to the village. And thus, wasn’t earning him any income.)

Everyone called him crazy. Even his friend with the buckets.
Two years later, the pipeline started to work. Water started to flow. And so did his income.
He was able to stop working, but have money coming in to him every day.

While his friend with the buckets, was stuck with his job… and stuck with no income if he stopped working.

This metaphor describes the traditional 9-to-5 employee, versus the entrepreneur that builds a system which can generate passive income.

What exactly does dealies.ph do?

Dealies basically makes your discount seeking, bargain hunting, group buying, heck, even your overall shopping life easier. In less than a year the number of group buying sites offering big discounts on several products and services all over Metro Manila and some other key Philippine cities exploded, as of 02 May 2011 there are at least 39 group buying sites servicing the bargain hungry populace. Which is good since it gives the consumer more and hopefully better choices. Thing is, with 39 different group buying sites, each having their own sets of travel packages, restaurant discounts, etc., an average consumer will most likely be unable to exploit all available deal options, I mean, would you not rather spend the time you spend looking for discount coupons on different group buying sites on Facebook?

Some of you may be familiar with Groupon Beeconomic, MetroDeal (thanks to their Facebook fan pagestrategy which I think is pure genius), Ensogo, the newly launched but nonetheless epic Yugadeals, and BUYanihan, but have you heard of cheApipAy and DealsTent? Exactly (or not if you’ve heard of themalready but you get my point). Dealies intends to aggregate all the deals from every active group buying site, shopping club, etc., into one feed, so you don’t get bombarded with different deals from different sites. Dealies also wants to minimize the amount of email notification group buying subscribers get by giving them an option to select which deal category, group buying site, location, price range, etc., they would want to receive updates from. We hope to achieve these and more once we pass our beta stage.

Are you a group buying website?

Yes, but better. We are like the group buying website for all seasons.

What Dealies is offering is a one-stop site offering a clear and aggregated view of the deals, be it a massive discount on a spa treatment, a travel deal that will make you claim an entire year’s worth of sick leave, to an eat-all-the-chicken-joy-you-can offering at Jollibee (not that Jollibee will be offering that anytime soon). Dealies tracks virtually every available deal within the Philippine area of responsibility (yes, we plan to track those bargains and discounts better than PAGASA tracks those storms) and bring them to consumers in one neatly organized, easily navigable, and charming site. We help bargain hunters uncover countless specials you may otherwise not see (unless of course you have the superhuman strength of browsing through all 39 group buying websites in less than 3 hours). We do not provide the deals themselves, we just make it easier to find them.

Dealies also blogs about what’s popular each week in the different countries that we work in – a key factor in helping people navigate their way though all the different deals and find what they would be interested in. (We are also very user focused, throw us a punch and we’ll hug you back)

Is Dealies all about group buying aggregation?

We consider the group buying scene to be stable even after it is no longer ‘hot.’ However, we are also involved with private shopping clubs and will soon enter shoe sale aggregation, thus not limiting ourselves to just one particular market venture. We intend to provide our users with the services they desire now and the ones they will desire in the future above all, whether or not they remain identical. However that said, group buying daily deals remain our central focus and are, of course, the foundation of our website and we believe that they will remain a germane aspect of online shopping. So we see the green facade, but what is the tech behind Dealies? Dealies has a large international presence and we are packing some serious tech into this solution to scan all the deals sites in every country where we are present.

Our developers scrape daily deals from group buy websites onto our WordPress (yes, we use WordPress, go make fun of us now) which we use to edit and design the site. We also use PHP. and we’re running our website on the Cloud (Amazon EC2) and thus can manage even high traffic peaks easily. Cloud means that we do not have a single web server, we manage our website through Amazon and when traffic levels are high, we simply get more computing power from Amazon with a few clicks.

Who does the deals search on the internet, do you have human input or is this purely done withbots?

We scour the web to find group buying sites, that was for sure human input, but once we have a site’sdeal XMLs synced with our site they run automatically. But humans always have to watch out for newgroup buying websites to add to our site, they pop up every other day!

Dealies.ph is one of the more “labor intensive” sites we have as we try to customize to each market. The amount of special deals, bargains, mall sales and events in the Philippines calls for super human efforts,bots just can’t handle that, at least for now.

Who are the people behind Dealies?

Dealies is under Lempa 7, a Berlin, Germany based start-up involved in several e-commerce sites around the world. One of the founders of Lempa 7 created Studi VZ, the German Facebook which was ENORMOUSLY popular in Germany, until the last year more so than Facebook. However, Facebook sued them and they eventually sold it to them. Another founder created multiple link sharing databases which are not worth naming, but which were also extremely profitable. We like to think that we have major cred and hopes that the success of our other endeavors would spillover Dealies.ph.

There are times when the boyfriend does something stupid which turns her off. You, being the “friend,” live for those instances because the girl runs to you. Well, it’s obvious that you like to go and ride with the girl. However, there are situations when you think that your secret love would lean to you because of a crazy action that the bf did. On the contrary, she even loved the guy more. What? Yeah. The antics that you expect would give the guy negative points in fact have increased his charm.

It’s jaded. I know.

So what can you do? The answer is nothing really. You just need to be around and hope that she will turn back to her sweet “friend” again.

Generally, bad US fundamentals weigh down on the USD (bad US = bad USD). Risk aversion from the US capitals markets causes a sell-off of the USD. This is logical. However, there were several instances in the recent past that this did not happen. The USD even jumped despite some dismal economic data from the US. Why? Some say that the market hedged their money in the USD away from the US capitals markets.

The point that I’m trying to make is that it is really hard to gauge where the market is going even if you have an idea regarding the economic outlook of the US (based on preliminary estimates). Sometimes, the market will sway just as you expect it to be. Sometimes it does not.

The difference between me and the “friend” in the real world setting is that I can make the girl favor me over the other guy 99 times over a 100 (sike!). I have a hand on the outcome.

However, I cannot do that in trading forex. I can only be a “friend.” I can only wait and be prepared for the market to come to me; to work on the opportunities being presented.

Sometimes I win. Sometimes I don’t. In the forex market, no matter how well positioned you are, it is still all up to her.

Turock (aka Tory) and Jason have been running their taxi in the philippines for the past year. They both lost Jobs in the USA and picked up and moved to the Philippines to look for jobs. Jobs in the Philippines are scarce but starting a taxi service made sense.

Tory and Jason purchased this Taho rig in Marikina City, Philippines to start a new life as ‘Taho’ merchants.
They figured this is the right career to get into since the start-up cost are minimal. This is their first day working their new business around the city of Marikina.

Tory and Jason spent sometime in the Philippines this past summer operating their Jeepney. They operated a cutting route starting in Kalumpang going to the LRT.
This is the 3rd fiiipino job that they have attempted, this was by far the most challenging of all past job experiments.

The photo shows the victim’s family posing outside their home as the gunman on the left aims the gun at him. The photo was distributed to the media by the Dagsa family. Apparently, the guy on the right is also involved in this assassination plot. Days after, the suspects who had criminal records for robbery, were caught and mentioned they had a grudge on the councilor and were seeking revenge.

Well, it’s only two days before the New Year so I better make my end of the year resolutions… Exercise daily, eat healthy, steady on the partying, and so on.. Trading-wise, here are my top 10 forex decrees:

1)      Don’t hesitate to trade the breakouts!

• Chart patterns are the bread and butter of technical analysis. There are five basic must-know chart formations – triangles, head and shoulder (inverted), double bottom (tops), cup and handle, triple bottom (top). If you spot a breakout.. trade it!

2)      Don’t forget the fundies!

• Marry fundamentals with technicals like you’re marrying Jessica Alba. Okay, the latter does not make any sense. In any case, you should always try to execute trades that are both supported by technicals and fundamentals/sentiment as this would increase the chance of them winning.

3)      Don’t gamble!

• Say no to rogue trading! Trading currencies is not like in a casino where you can just do a one-time big time trade. Of course you can do that but don’t fret if you find your account down to zero the following day. If you want to gamble.. go to a casino! It’s more fun there! If you want to profit… trade forex in a systematic way!

4)      Don’t revenge trade!

• Did I say no rogue trading? Well, losing is part of the game. So if you do just relax, calm down, and move on. Don’t hit the entry button again and trade twice or thrice of the position that you lost in hopes of getting it back and even winning in one go. You’ll find yourself in a deeper ditch if you lose again.

5)      Manage your positions wisely

• Manage your positions wisely like your managing your chicks… I mean your checks. Don’t risk more than 1% of your account balance in one trade. Enough said!

6)      Avoid trading in a highly volatile time

• Trading during the releases of high profile reports like GDP and NFP is not my style. I got whipsawed the last time I tried to ride a sudden slide in prices from a GDP report. You cannot really gauge how much a currency will move given a report. You might get the tail end of the move if you decide to just jump in. If you miss it… then stay away.

7)      Trade on retracements

• This one is related to number 6. If you miss a breakout or the initial strong move in prices then don’t just jump in. Wait for it to retrace (sounds fancy, eh?) so you can get a better price. Hit the limit order function… it’s there for a reason.

8)      Be flexible

• The market acts like a girl… fickle minded. You just don’t know what she wants exactly. So sometimes it is best to just adjust and be flexible. To be profitable and likable you gotta do what the woman wants.

9)      Use a journal

• Okay, journalizing sounds kinda gay-ish. But if you want to keep track of what’s working and what’s not in your trades then you better jot all of them down. Write down your trade ideas, what happened, what you did, what you felt… everything.

10)   Go out. Drink. Chix.

• Yes. You read that correctly! Forex is a tough business with all the things that you have to read and analyze. We’re just humans. We get strained too. Sometimes we have to take a break as well. So for my tenth decree… Free yourself from stress. Clear your mind. Go out. Drink. Chix.

So there you go… my top 10 forex resolutions. Currently, I’m working on the tenth (Hey Babe!). Alright. Got to head out now. Peace!
